If you run a small SaaS team and want one place for support conversations and feature requests, LotsTeam is the Help Scout alternative I built for exactly that. A support inbox with numbered cases, a feedback board with votes, a roadmap, a changelog and a task board sit in one project, you pay per project instead of per seat, and AI teammates cost nothing. Featurebase, Productlane, Plain, Crisp and Freshdesk are the other five I compare below, each opened on its own pricing and product pages on 2 November 2026.
The short version
| If you are... | Look at |
|---|---|
| A founder or lean team that wants support, requests, roadmap, changelog and tasks together, with an AI assistant doing the daily work | LotsTeam |
| A team that wants a help desk and feedback boards from one vendor, priced per seat | Featurebase |
| A team that already lives in Linear | Productlane |
| A B2B team that wants an API-first support platform | Plain |
| A team that wants live chat and a shared inbox priced per workspace | Crisp |
| A team that wants classic ticketing with a knowledge base | Freshdesk |
1. LotsTeam: support and feature requests in one project
The question behind most "Help Scout alternative" searches from a small SaaS team is not "where do I answer email". It is "where do the requests customers send me end up, and how do I tell them when I ship". LotsTeam answers that in one place.
What is in a project
- Support inbox. Every message becomes a numbered case with a status (open, waiting on customer, snoozed, resolved, closed), a priority, an assignee and tags. There are saved replies, internal notes your customers never see, private attachments and full-text search. Customers get an instant confirmation with their case number, and email replies thread back into the case.
- Feedback board. A widget and a public portal collect requests, bugs and votes. Duplicates can be merged, and votes and links move to the post you keep.
- Roadmap and changelog. Tasks you choose to show appear on the portal's roadmap. You publish a changelog entry, and if you switch it on for that entry, the people who asked get an email when it goes out.
- Tasks. A task board where each task links to the requests behind it. Mark a support case "track as post" and when the linked post ships, every linked customer gets one "It's live" email.
- Customer portal. Customers see their own requests and can close or reopen them. They do not need a LotsTeam account.
Your AI assistant does the daily work. Connect ChatGPT, Claude or another MCP-compatible agent to https://api.lots.team/mcp and ask it to read this morning's cases, draft replies for you to approve, merge duplicate requests, create a task from a request, update its status and draft the changelog entry. The agent acts with your permissions, so it cannot do anything you cannot. The dashboard does the whole job too, so you can run the same loop with no agent at all. See how to add an AI agent as a team member for the setup.
AI teammates are free. Each one gets its own name and key, access to the projects you choose, and an Agent badge on everything it does. It cannot sign in, change settings or touch billing. You can add up to 20 per team.
Pricing is per project, not per seat. Read from the live catalogue on 2 November 2026:
| Plan | Price | Projects included |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $24 per month | 3 |
| Pro | $69 per month | 10 |
| Business | $159 per month | 30 |
| No plan | $9 per project per month, paid from credits and charged daily | As many as you need |
Team members and organizations are unlimited on every plan, and extra projects beyond a plan are at your plan's rate. New accounts get free credits when they sign up, no card. A project is one product: for a SaaS company with one app, the whole team, the inbox, the board and the changelog fit in one project.
Full details are on the LotsTeam pricing page and in LotsTeam pricing explained.
2. Help Scout, briefly
Help Scout is a well-established shared inbox and help desk. Its plans cover email, live chat, SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger channels, a Docs knowledge base, Beacon for chat and help articles on your site, workflows and AI features.
Checked on 2 November 2026 (Help Scout's pricing page, priced per user per month):
| Plan | Price per user per month | Users | Shared inboxes included | Docs sites included |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Up to 5 | 1 | 1 |
| Standard | $25 | Up to 25 | 2 | 2 |
| Plus | $45 | Up to 50 | 5 | 3 |
| Pro | $75 | Unlimited, minimum 10 | 10 | 5 |
The page shows a 16% badge on its annual toggle without listing annual amounts. Standard and Plus offer 15 days to try all of a plan's features with no card. Extra inboxes are $10 per month on annual billing, and extra Docs sites are $20 per month on annual billing.
Help Scout and AI agents. Help Scout runs an official MCP server at https://mcp.helpscout.net/mcp. Per its docs, it is available on plans with API access, each person connects with their own credentials, and connections created today are read-only, so an assistant can find and summarize conversations but not reply or change tags. Help Scout lists write actions as on its roadmap.
Help Scout and feature requests. Help Scout's SaaS page describes turning support conversations into product signals with tags, custom fields and reports, and linking Jira or Linear issues to the original conversation. Standard is limited to one app from its app library, Plus adds Salesforce, Jira and HubSpot, and Linear appears in the plan comparison table.

3. Where LotsTeam fits a small team differently
- One bill that does not grow with headcount. A five-person team on Help Scout Standard is five users at $25 each, or $125 per month at the listed monthly price. The same five people, plus your AI teammates, fit inside one LotsTeam project: $9 per month with no plan, or $24 per month on Starter for three projects.
- Requests and support in the same system. In LotsTeam a customer's support case, the feature request behind it, the task that builds it and the changelog entry that announces it are linked records. You do not need a separate tool or a tag convention to connect them.
- An agent that acts as well as reads. Your AI assistant can reply with your approval, create and update tasks, merge requests and draft the changelog through the same MCP connection.
4. The other alternatives
Featurebase
Featurebase sells a support suite: a help desk inbox, live chat, a help center, feedback and an AI agent called Fibi.
Checked on 2 November 2026 (featurebase.app/pricing): Free is $0 for 1 seat. Growth is $29 per seat per month, Professional $59, Enterprise $99. Feedback boards and roadmaps are 1 on Free, 5 on Growth, 10 on Professional and unlimited on Enterprise. API and MCP are listed on the paid plans. Fibi is $0.49 per resolution. There is a 10-day trial with no card. It is a good fit if you want a help desk and feedback boards from one vendor and are happy to price per seat. More in Featurebase alternatives.
Productlane
Productlane describes itself as a customer support tool built around Linear.
Checked on 2 November 2026 (productlane.com/pricing, productlane.com): Starter is $29 per user per month, Pro $59, Scale $99, with 25, 50 and 100 AI resolutions included and $0.79 per extra resolution. The page shows one price per plan without saying which billing period it reflects. Starter includes a shared email inbox, live chat and feature requests. The homepage lists a support inbox, portals, a changelog generated from Linear and GitHub, an API with webhooks and an MCP server. If your issues already live in Linear, this is the closest fit. See LotsTeam vs Productlane.

Checked on 2 November 2026 (plain.com, plain.com/pricing): Foundation is $45 per user per month billed annually, Horizon is $99 per user per month billed annually, and Frontier is custom. If you run an agency
If you handle support and feedback for client products, give each client their own LotsTeam project. Every client gets a separate inbox, board and changelog, you invite your team once across all of them, and the cost scales with the number of client projects, not with the number of people on your team. Feedback and changelogs for client projects walks through the setup.
If you are a business owner collecting customer requests
You do not need a product team to use this. A project gives you one inbox for customer messages and one public board where customers can ask for things and vote. You answer in the dashboard or have your AI assistant draft replies for your approval.

Yes. On the Team page the owner or an admin adds an AI agent with a name, Member or Viewer access and the projects it can see. It gets its own key, shows an Agent badge on its work, cannot sign in or touch billing, and is free, up to 20 per team.
Is Productlane a good alternative if I do not use Linear?
Productlane says on its homepage that it is a customer support tool built around Linear, and its loop-closing features are described in terms of Linear issues. If your issues live elsewhere, LotsTeam keeps its own task board linked to the requests.
